Shinigami lore

Terrifying kami of Izumo, the shinigami are considered spirits by some, gods by others. As literal manifestations of the death urge, shinigami call mortals to the underworld of Yomi. Some are content merely guiding those who seek death—whether self-inflicted or in the pursuit of some cause—but others possess the living and influence their victims to take their own lives.
