Stargirl is a niche champion who at one point was regarded as a potential game changer in PvP. Unfortunately, her cleanse is only useful against The Drowned in Combat Cycle, and even then she needs to be at high star levels for her kit to be effective. Do not invest in her force, but know that she does have a very specific purpose. This is a champion that we will monitor to see whether future champions being added to the game changes her usefulness.

Courtney Whitmore was unhappy when her mother married Pat Dugan and the family moved from California to Blue Valley, Nebraska. But while rummaging through her stepfather's belongings, she found the costume and equipment of the Golden Age hero, the Star-Spangled Kid, and realized Pat was once his sidekick, Stripesy. Courtney wore the Star-Spangled Kid costume to a patriotic-themed event to tease Pat, but the event was attacked by the Dragon King and his minions. Realizing the old equipment still worked, Courtney protected the civilians, aided by Pat, using his newly built S.T.R.I.P.E. armor. Forging a new bond, Pat agreed to train Courtney, and he and Courtney decided to become a team—the Star-Spangled Kid and S.T.R.I.P.E.
Courtney met other heroes when Robin, then a member of Young Justice, brought the team to evaluate her. They got along well, but she didn't join. She also met the modern Starman, Jack Knight, also a legacy hero—the son of the original—who wielded his father's Cosmic Staff. Jack was impressed with Courtney, and when he retired from crime-fighting to focus on his new baby, he gave her the Cosmic Staff. To honor both their histories, she took the name Stargirl. Those legacies and her relationship with Pat meant a great deal to Courtney, as her biological father, Sam Kurtis, turned out to be a criminal working for the Royal Flush Gang. Though it was difficult, Courtney severed ties with Sam, considering Pat her true father.
Stargirl joined the Justice Society, made up of surviving Golden Age champions and other legacy heroes. She became a valued member. She briefly dated Billy Batson, but he broke it off when other members did not realize the adult-seeming Shazam was in reality a teenage boy Courtney's age, and he felt he could not reveal his identity to them all. She later developed mutual romantic feelings for Atom Smasher, but he chose to join Black Adam in liberating Khandaq, and she remained with the JSA, disagreeing with the more violent methods Black Adam and his allies employed.
Courtney's family was killed in an attack by the time-travelling villain Degaton, who was trying to erase the Justice Society and their legacy from history. With the help of Rip Hunter, she and other JSA members went back to 1951 and teamed with the original Justice Society to stop Degaton. During this mission, Courtney was reunited with Atom Smasher. Though initially tense, by the end of the mission, Courtney forgave him for his actions in Khandaq, understanding what it feels like to want to avenge horrible crimes. The JSA defeated Degaton, and when Courtney returned to her era, she found history returned to its correct state, and her family was alive.
The Spectre, deprived of a host, set out to wreak vengeance on a mass scale. It attacked Khandaq. Atom Smasher returned there to help Black Adam, and the JSA followed. Stargirl was moved when Atom Smasher offered himself as an object of judgment to save the people of Khandaq. The Spectre killed Atom Smasher and departed, but Black Adam restarted his heart with his mystic lightning. After he recovered, Atom Smasher turned himself in to a world court for war crimes. He pleaded guilty. Stargirl promised she would be there for him when he got out. Soon after, Courtney learned her biological father had been killed in the Infinite Crisis. Struggling with conflicted feelings, Courtney was finally able to forgive him for his failings, helped by her recent experiences.
Despite her youth, Stargirl has grown into a mentor for younger and less experienced heroes. She was a friend and advisor to Cyclone, as well as Black Lightning's daughter, Lightning. Recently, she helped rescue thirteen youthful heroes known as the Lost Children, whom the Time Masters removed from the timeline to save them. Discovering they couldn't be returned to their home eras, Courtney helped them find homes in the present. On a personal level, Courtney endured another heartbreak when Atom Smasher returned to the JSA after reducing his sentence with the Suicide Squad. The elder members of the team expressed concern about his age difference with Courtney. Atom Smasher, feeling his past as a convicted criminal meant he did not deserve her, told her they should not pursue a relationship.
